Capturing that perfect scent profile is no easy task! We're here to help with detailed information to assist you on your journey finding that perfect scent.

Maximum fragrance load percentages depend on the type of wax you are using. In most instances, you will need to add 10% of fragrance oil per kilogram of wax. So, for 1 kg of wax you would then need about 100 grams in total. e.g., for 500g wax, 50g Fragrance = 10%. However, as each type of wax has different maximum fragrance load percentages, please refer to the individual wax product pages for specific information.

It is not advisable to add more than the recommended fragrance load to the wax alone. This can lead to poor candle performance. There is an additive called Palm Stearic Acid which can assist with increasing fragrance load.

We recommend to always weigh your fragrance oil on digital scales rather than measuring it with a measuring spoon or cup because different oils can vary in volume dependent on the ingredients and density.

Whilst blending fragrance oils is possible, we have not conducted testing and therefore cannot guarantee end results. However, if you are happy to conduct your own testing, you can create your own unique scent by mixing two or even three fragrance oils together. Our fragrances have been specifically designed for use in natural waxes, including soy wax and palm wax. However, they are usually also suitable in paraffin as well. Please always conduct your own testing before bulk production.

Our candle fragrance oils consist of many aromatic ingredients, some natural and some synthetic, blended to our perfumers' specifications. Natural components are extracted from plants or flowers and synthetic components are manufactured from man-made materials. Our fragrances contain synthetic ingredients to optimise candle making results. Only using natural ingredients (such as essential oils) is expensive and restrictive with what you can create. Essential oils are not stable, do not blend well with wax and do not give you a good scent throw. Our fragrances are therefore a combination of essential oils and synthetics.

Please take care when opening fragrance bottles as variances in temperature may cause a build-up of pressure. If you find that the foil seal is raised even slightly, place the bottle in the fridge until you observe that the pressure has subsided.

If you are unable to use a cooling method, use a cover like a rag and point away from your face to prevent any risk whilst breaking the seal.

Always keep the fragrance bottles, whether sealed or unsealed, securely tightened and in a dark, cool place away from direct sunlight or other sources of heat.

Care must be taken when handling fragrance oils; they may damage or discolour surfaces. We recommend mixing in containers we provide as some plastic containers will react with the materials. Take care to accurately follow instructions when adding fragrance as if the wax is too hot, the fragrance oil can vaporise, which can reduce your scent throw and, in some circumstances, lead to ignition. Please ensure you store your bottles in a cabinet, container, or box to protect them from all light sources in a room that is kept cool and dry. Please also keep them away from children and do not ingest them.

The information available for fragrance safety and pregnancy is inconclusive. Testing on fragrances is limited to skin sensitivity only. There is no data available on the effects on pregnant women. All material used in the production of fragrances is safe for use according to the International Fragrance Research Association (IFRA). None of our fragrances contains phthalates or parabens, and none of the ingredients is animal derived.

The flashpoint is the temperature at which a fragrance can combust if exposed to an open flame or spark. The lower the flashpoint, the easier it is to ignite the material. Adding fragrance oil to wax that is above the flashpoint will not cause it to combust. By clicking on ‘more information’ next to a fragrance you will find the flashpoint under the description tab.

The average shelf life of fragrance oil is about one year. It is dependent on time, temperature, and exposure to air and light. Another variable is the shelf life of the raw materials used to make up the fragrance. If there are more natural ingredients in the formula, it can go bad more quickly. We recommend that you store fragrance oils in a cool dark place away from light and heat. We recommend testing each fragrance in a candle before making a large batch if you need to let the oils sit for over one year.

The raw materials that go into fragrance oils can vary in price. Some are more expensive than others, and this affects the variation in cost.

The raw materials that make up the fragrance oils can create a variance in colour. In some cases, the same fragrance can vary batch to batch. This is due to the nature of the raw material, especially the more natural derived ingredients.

For example, the time of harvest and location of where the raw material is sourced can create a colour variance in the end result when comparing batch to batch. The formula is not compromised, and the scent remains the same. 

There are three notes that in perfect combination are what make a fragrance lasting and appealing.

Top note: This is the initial impression the fragrance oil makes when you first smell a candle or remove the lid. It is the most volatile, meaning it will evaporate the quickest.

Middle Note: The middle note is the “heart” of the fragrance. It can take 10 to 20 minutes for the middle notes to fully develop. When you are burning a candle, the middle notes are the most prominent.

Base Note (also called the 'dry down'): The base notes are what give a candle lasting quality. It is the scent that lingers even after the candle is extinguished.

Our recommendation would be to make soy wax melts for oil burners. Fragrance oils are in concentrated form and need to be diluted for use. Wax melts are a great way to do this.
