Guide To Buying Wax
At Eroma we stock a wide variety of candle waxes to ensure we can meet the needs of our customers. Your wax selection will depend on several factors:
What type of candle do you want to make?
There are pillar candles, container and votive candles, tealights and more. Free-standing pillar candles require a wax designed to shrink to release from the mould whereas container candles require a wax designed to stay in the vessel.
What are your quality expectations?
Are you looking for a high-end wax with superior qualities or simply want to make functional candles that work?
Would you like to use 100% natural wax such as soy or palm? Or try paraffin to maximise your scent throw?
To get the best of both worlds, you can try our soy-paraffin blend that maximises your scent throw whilst allowing you to still market your candle as a soy wax candle.

WAX TYPES
Soy Wax
Eroma is the largest wholesaler of soy wax in Australia. We stock the high-end Summit range of soy waxes and also the Golden Brands range of Soy Wax.
How It's Made
The making of soy wax commences with soybeans from which the oil is separated. This oil is then purified to give pristine soybean oil which then goes through a process called 'hydrogenation', turning it into a solid.
Depending on the blend, there may be a small amount of vegetable botanical oils added to give the waxes their unparalleled characteristics and performances. These ingredients are processed under close supervision with careful regard for secrecy. Only a select few people know the actual ingredients.
Palm Wax
All our palm waxes are non-GM modified, 100% palm oil based, natural and environmentally friendly. During solidification, palm wax forms an amazing pattern of crystal structures. It is one of the hardest natural waxes, meaning it is ideal for free-standing pillar candles, ships well in all climates and tolerates a high fragrance load to enhance your scent throw. The following is some benefits of using palm wax:
- It burns clean and efficiently with no soot
- It is non-toxic and contains no harmful petrochemicals
- The flame is bright
- It holds its fragrance
- It has a long burning time, steady burning and is smokeless
- It's environmentally friendly
- It is a harder wax that can withstand hot temperatures without melting or going soft
Care For the Environment
If you are looking for an environmentally responsible, non-genetically modified palm wax, then our range is what you need. There has been quite a bit of press lately about the destruction of rainforests in South-East Asia, home to some of the most bio-diverse ecosystems in the world, with the threat of losing these forests and destroying the livelihood of native people, animals such as the orangutan, Sumatran tiger populations and other important wildlife.
We set out to find sustainable palm wax and, therefore, partnered with a member of the Round Table on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO). This organisation was founded by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), government bodies and industry involved in palm cultivation. The RSPO was founded to develop and define best practices for sustainable palm cultivation and to protect the environment.
How It's Made
The palm tree produces fruits in bunches which are then harvested and sent to palm oil mills to undergo sterilisation, bunch stripping, oil extraction, oil clarification and purification. The palm kernel has one of the highest oil contents of any plant, so a lot of wax can be grown in a small amount of space. This crude palm oil is then further processed to remove the fatty free acids and colouring. The quality of oil is food grade.
The refined palm oil then undergoes fractionation, by which Palm Olein and Palm Stearin are produced and these in turn can be further fractionated to obtain specialised products, including palm waxes. All our palm waxes are made from 100% natural palm oil based raw materials. The various blends of palm waxes are naturally made/formulated from the many fractions of palm oil leading to exciting and different crystal structures. The crystal structure is formed by the differing rate of solidification of the palm fats.
Why Palm Wax is a Great Choice
- Palm waxes/palm wax candles are environmentally friendly
- All our palm waxes are non-genetically modified
- They have a wide application in aromatherapy, with excellent compatibility with fragrance and essential oils
- One of the hardest natural waxes, meaning it ships well in all climates
- All natural and 100% palm oil based - during solidification it forms an amazing pattern of crystal structures
Paraffin Wax
Paraffin is a container wax. Paraffin wax is a derivative of petroleum and is made by removing the waxy substance from crude oil. It is one of the most popular kinds of wax used in candle making as it is very efficient at releasing the fragrance oil due to its molecular structure. Paraffin-type waxes will maximise your scent throw.
You can choose between the following:
- Paraffin container wax has great adherence to jars and containers, can hold a fragrance load of up to 9% and comes in slab form. Each slab is approximately 4.5kg. (470mm X 300mm). There are four slabs in each box.
- Soy/Paraffin container blend wax is a pre-mixed paraffin and soy blend which offers the best of both worlds: the fragrance throw and easy burn of paraffin combined with the appealing look and usability of soy. This wax has great adherence to jars and containers. This wax can hold a fragrance load of up to 10%. This wax comes in slab form. Each slab is approximately 4.5kg. (470mm X 300mm). There are five slabs in each box.
