How To Make Soy Wax Melts
MATERIALS
- Ecosoya Q230 Soy Wax - approximately 68 grams per mould
- Six Cavity Clamshell Moulds (or other melt moulds)
- Fragrance Oil - approximately 8% by weight or 6 grams per mould
- Mercury Thermometer
STEPS
Step 1 - Prepare the Wax
Weigh out the appropriate amount of wax you need for your moulds. EROMA 6 cavity clamshell moulds require approximately 74 grams of wax and fragrance combined. For an 8% fragrance load, use 68 grams of wax per clamshell mould | 6 grams of fragrance oil.
These measurements can then be simply scaled up for larger quantities. For example, if you were to pour 5 clamshell moulds at once, you would melt 340 grams of wax | 30 grams of fragrance.
Step 2 - Melt Wax and Add Colour
Melt the wax to its recommended melt temperature as per the manufacturer's instructions. We recommend a double boiler setting to heat the wax. You can also add in your candle colour if desired. Click here for information on which colours to use and how much.
Step 3 - Add Fragrance
Add your pre-measured fragrance oil (8% loading) to your melted wax and mix thoroughly.
Step 4 - Pour
Carefully pour the wax mixture into clamshell moulds. Be sure to leave around 5mm of gap at the top so that you can easily close the lid of the mould once the wax has set.
Step 5 - Cure
Allow to set in a cool, dark environment for at least 24 hours.
Step 6 - Finish Off
Either leave the melts in the mould for storage and display (recommended) or you can carefully remove your melts from the mould and house them in new packaging.
Moulds can be cleaned with a paper towel and a small amount rubbing alcohol for future use!
